Video Production Pathway

The Video Production Pathway is part of the Arts, Media, & Entertainment Career Education Program at Royal High School. This project-based digital and visual arts pathway, guides students to achieve in visual arts and career preparation through technical instruction and practical experiences in film, video, and media projects. Students learn the creative and technical components of pre-production, production, and post-production processes.  In the advanced Broadcasting course, students produce the campuswide Kingdom News!

Why certify in Video Production?

As part of Royal's CTE Pathways, seniors earn distinction at graduation by completing 20 credits the following with a grade of "C" or higher: 

Video Production 1 

AND

ROP Digital Video H or Broadcasting

Advanced students have the option of a third year an, International Baccalaureate Film course which earns an extra GPA point with grades of "C" or higher.

How big is the industry?

California's creative economy generated $604.9 billion dollars in 2018 whereby the film industry is the third largest industry in the state.

Careers

While the need for professional actors is declining, the need for film and video editors is expected to increase by 18.2% from 2018-2028, nearly twice the average rate of statewide increases for employment. There is a high need for production workers who average $30,332 annually while the highest wage work (below) requires postsecondary education.

Equipment Check out

Did you know you can check out equipment for class projects free of charge? All you need to do is print up an EQUIPMENT CHECK-OUT FORM, get a parent signature and return it to class to pick up what you need. Ask Ms. De La Torre for available equipment.

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you and your child to Video Production! I am looking forward to an exciting new year. The Video Production department covers the technology and development of film and television. Students will be writing, producing, directing, filming and editing their own original films. While we do supply equipment such as Ipads, we welcome donations of $20.00 from each class member help with consumable items costs. You will be provided with a tax-deductible receipt for your records. Donations are accepted throughout the year.
