About law enforcement

A public service is one that is provided by government to its citizens, either directly or through the financing of another entity to provide the service.  Public service professions offer many career opportunities, including the following career pathways: Public Safety, Emergency Response, and Legal Practices.

How big is the industry?

Employment in state and local educational services is expected to account for slightly more than two-thirds of the increase in employment in the state and local government sector over the 2012–2022 period.

What about CA?

Employment in local government educational services is projected to increase by 454,400, to reach more than 8.2 million in 2022, representing one of the largest increases in employment among all industries.

Is the industry growing?

Because of heightened interest in homeland and border security, employment growth in this sector is projected at over 20% in the near future. Employment in the state and local government sector is projected to increase by 929,000, to reach just over 20.0 million in 2022. This increase is more than two-and-a-half times the increase seen in the 2002–2012 period.
