The Royal High School boys' soccer program enjoys a rich tradition of success that spans 45 years. Since the program's inception in 1974, the Royal High School Highlanders have added 19 league championships (including a school record 5 straight league titles between 2012 and 2016) and 3 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championships to its trophy case. In 2014, the Highlanders had its first ever SoCal Regional Championships Finals appearance; the only team in Ventura County to appear in a state final since the CIF first organized the annual tournament in 2008. In addition to the long list of domestic titles, Royal has represented the city of Simi Valley in stellar fashion by winning numerous prominent high school soccer tournaments throughout Southern California.

In 2015, The Royal High School boys varsity soccer team was awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award. This award is given to soccer teams whose players average a minimum 3.2 GPA and Royal averaged a 3.56 GPA, thus becoming the first ever recipient of this prestigious award in school history. The GPA of 3.56 was 3^rd in the entire state behind 2 private schools and 1^st among over 200 participating public schools state-wide! Furthermore, Royal placed 59^th among 2,500+ high schools nation-wide that participated. This is a testament to the coaching staff's constant efforts to instill a culture of strong academics in our student-athletes. 

Many of our student-athlete alumni have gone on to play in nationally renowned collegiate programs and many also went on to become successful soccer coaches at the club/academy, high school, and college levels.

Our coaching staff firmly believes that continued success cannot be achieved without discipline and sacrifice and our coaching philosophy reflects that sentiment. At Royal High we treat soccer as an extension of the classroom and use our craft as docents to cultivate moral character alongside athletic competitiveness. 

Both the coaching staff and players at Royal devote many, many hours into "the beautiful game" in an attempt to maintain this program's legacy and winning tradition. We require that our athletes be good students and demand that they display good citizenship both on and off the field. It is also the philosophy of our entire coaching staff to promote sportsmanship in a respectful and safe environment in our constant effort to "pursue victory with honor" as mandated by our governing body: the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
